Choosing the WRONG Service Company

We interviewed leading hygiene service companies about what they thought about many other service companies and they have some strong points to say.

Whilst the actual companies are not identified by name, the points raised should be taken into consideration when choosing your washroom service company.

Let us just call them company A, company B, company C etc.

Company A

Company A is a bit hard to track down. We have yet to see a set of filed accounts in the last few years for several of the companies listed with the same directors. Obviously this company has a high risk credit rating.

Company A is purely an internet based broker and does not employ any service staff at all. They also operate out of accommodation addresses, the ones that simply forward mail etc.

Company B

Company B is also an internet broker, also having no direct links to its own service staff, always using sub-contractors. However, Company B is not very good at paying its bills and often the sub-contract service companies will withdraw service for their customers i.e. you.

Company C

Company C can't wait to sell out to PHS, the leading company in the sector for purchasing other washroom service companies. Ex clients of PHS, thinking they have moved away from them, now find they are back with them.

This same type of company may be more agressive in trying to tie up longer term contracts as they can be worth more when selling their business.

Company D

Company D has sales consultants who may try to sell you more than you actually require. After all, sales people are often on commission and the more they sell the more commission they earn. They will also get more commission for longer term contracts.

Company E

Company E puts up a website without their full contact details i.e. which company actually owns the website. Why would they do this? A simple way just to generate leads often which implies pricing that doesn't match the actual quote given later, or keeping their own company out of it to protect existing business paying a lot more than their prices implied on the internet.

Company F

Company F is not committed to the level of service it is offering. Its service drivers are under severe work pressures to fulfill all their calls and may cut corners. Those sanitary bins in the factory rarely get used so no need to check them each time.

Verdict

The point of these comments is that you should evaluate any washroom service company very carefully before committing to a contract. We suggest that you deal with a service company that:

  • Does not tie you into long term contracts
  • Answers the phone with professional and helpful staff - test them out first to prove this
  • Has a credit rating and filed accounts to know who you are actually entering into a contract with
  • Freely offers reference sites, preferably in your own specific area
  • Occasionally on service visits check on the actual service complete, make sure all units were serviced and to a satisfactory standard

Always get one more than one quote for your services. This is a competive market where, especially with the increase in internet sales, have helped reduce service prices in general.
